Weebly, a Wonder for Beginners

Paul Glazowski,

weebly

Earlier today I happened upon a page whilst doing some ritualistic morning digging through Technorati, and it got me rather excited. It’s called Weebly, and it allows you to create a website freely hosted on their servers.

Themes for your Weebly site are complete with mirror/shadow effects, and though the tools and options are fewer than just about all other blogging services out there, you might not be wishing to stray from text editing, inserting photos, or integrating maps. With a strong emphasis placed on effortless creation, Weebly is all drag and drop, save for uploading images. I wouldn’t be very surprised to find Weebly 2.0 freshened up with some Ajax goodness as well.

Options are few for now, but hey, remember how Blogger started out? And Wordpress (what Profy’s built around) was definitely not the snazzy item it is today back when it first crept onto the scene. You add, rearrange, and swap content in real-time, no more saving your page before previewing. If you’re still on dial-up, well, you probably shouldn’t have even begun to read this post, but broadband is a must for anything being done both by the sculptors of Web 2.0 and the communities that get something out of their creations.

This first edition definitely deserves some points for making the tedious work less so, and maybe a little fun. (Relatively speaking, of course.) Harking on the days of punching code to form barebones pages only further underlines the distance we’ve come, from excluding 99% of the world to making the integration and cohesion of billions of eyes, ears, and fingers a no-brainer. Not only to get record NASDAQ numbers, but to make connections and collaborate where there was neither before.
