Everlasting Topical Blogs from Boxxet

Svetlana Gladkova,

Boxxet - the service we heard about back in March - has been released to public. It was announced yesterday in the company's blog. Until yesterday the website was invitation-only.

Boxxet is actually all about compilation. It is intended to create various frequently updated topical "Boxxets" - collections of images, blogs, RSS feeds, search results, etc. The Boxxets are created and edited by users assisted by a special search engine. The Boxxets resemble frequently updated topical blogs - but they are updated automatically even if their authors do not write a single word.

How does it work? Suppose, you want to create a Boxxet about Disneyland. You will need to provide several links to the sources of information on Disneyland. After that Boxxet's search engine will crawl the materials of these specified sources, determine key words and finally it will select the most relevant content in its own database (Yahoo-powered). This content will finally be used to build the Boxxet. In future other Boxxet users will be able to contribute content to the Boxxet while the readers will rate it - thus giving new hints to the search engine on relevance of the proposed content).

This scheme ensures that the collection of information on a certain topic will be frequently updated while its author will not have to do much for that. Besides, this peculiar blog will still exist even if the author leaves it for good - provided that the Boxxet service is running at least.

  • Thank you for taking the time to think and write about Boxxet. We are hopeful that our view about compiling content on a subject level with the help of users will help make it easier to find the best information on the most popular subjects on the Web.
