WeWin Partners with Yahoo!

Phil Butler,

We recently reviewed a site called WeWin.com where users are rewarded for sharing and viewing video. We really like the site, with a few reservations, as the incentive based community is innovative and entertaining. In a press release by Market Wire - February 5, WeWin and Mondera announced a campaign that would award $5000 in gift certificates redeemable at Modera.com during the month of February. Mondera was voted “Best of the Web” by Forbes Magazine and is recognized for its quality gems and jewelry.

The latest news arrived here via email, announcing a strategic alliance between WeWin and Yahoo! Video. The alliance, according to the announcement, is an effort to maximize the user experience by allowing WeWin users instant access to video outside the site's database. The WeWin database is large and growing, but it is aggravating for users to have to jump between sites in order to find video searches outside the site's data base. Yahoo! will be providing relevant links to video anywhere on the web for WeWin users so that they will essentially have access to anything available with a given search. So, in a very real and innovative way, WeWin is attempting exactly what they said they would, in pulling out all the stops to compete with YouTube.

Yahoo! will also be indexing WeWin's videos to expose their unique video to Yahoo! users. This reciprocal agreement allows both communities to search, view and enjoy video with much expanded content.

I explored the WeWin site again, and their image library has expanded dramatically in the few days since my last report. There is the familiar Yahoo! Images search tool as described and a nice Modera ad announcing the jewelry prizes. You gotta like it when sites tray hard to please their users! I made a comment in my last review about the smaller prizes being offered, the comment was not meant as a if on WeWin, but was really just an observation.

I really like WeWin and intend to win my wife a diamond tennis bracelet after I finish tell you guys about the new developments! These recent moves are even more than I had hoped for from a startup, as we have seen so many that seemed to be losing their way in Web 2.0.

It is always good to report news that benefits Web users in some way. The most interesting thing here is the affiliation with Yahoo!, as this will allow WeWin users a lot more flexibility from the community. Personally, I would like to see WeWin offer up the latest Sony super PC, because my old dinosaur is barely chugging long. Come on guys, a one time $3500 winner of the new Sony VGC-RM1 for the most points. But then I may need the PC before I can create and upload that many videos! (Can't blame me for trying)

  • I checked out this site and it’s really cool. i read your other posts about wewin and believe they have the right formula here - it’s alot like other successful member reward online cos like blingo, iwon, mypoints, etc. why shouldn’t there be a loyalty based winner in video too? i think these guys could do it.

  • Thanks for your comment! yes, I liked Wewin too, it is not perfect but it is a high quality site. They are responsive to user wants and needs too, which is always a great thing. I think they will do very well!
