Web TV from South Pacific Islands

Phil Butler,

vtvThe South Pacific Island archipelago of Vanuatu is debuting the first Internet based TV station from that area of the world. Vanuatu TV will introduce Vanuatu's customs, tourism and businesses to the world via TV programming professionally produced for Internet transmission.

CEO Grant Abbot decided to create Vanuatu TV after he spent a holiday there in 2006. Now people all over the world will be able to share the beauty and uniqueness of Vanuatu with one click of a mouse. Online visitors will be able to view where to stay, eat, play, visit or invest via Vanuatu TV.

"We found plenty of Vanuatu information on sites featuring lots of inactive words and pictures. Having spent over eight years developing TV programs for the Internet, we decided to use our skills to showcase Vanuatu, 'the happiest place on earth and our home,'" Grant Abbott stated.

This unique if small Internet TV station is really indicative of a world that is becoming more and more interconnected. Businesses and travelers will benefit greatly from this new service dedicated to all things Vanuatu, as the station will provide interactive tools and programs to allow the people of Vanuatu and visitors to get acquainted. In the pre-launch testing of the station Vanuatu TV was getting visitors from Russia, China, Hollywood, Paris, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East.

Well, it isn't NBC but it is a unique view into a lifestyle and environment few of us are familiar with. I like the little venture even with its real estate brokers added. I expect we will see a lot more ventures like this one in the years to come, perhaps taking us to more places we might scarcely have heard of. This is kind of the cheap lower end of Web 2.0 offerings but it does qualify because part of the new web is unique experiential video and community. I think they should at least have a live web cam somewhere nice in order to call it TV though, don't you?
