MyspaceTV To Feature LonelyGirl15 Season Finale

Michael Garrett,

LonelyGirl15Beginning Friday, August 3 at 8 a.m., LonelyGirl15 will begin showing its season finale on MySpaceTV every hour for 12 hours in a row. The “12 in 12″ final episodes will follow the cast as they try to find their missing friend. Each episode is usually between 1 to 4 minutes long. Expect the second season of LonelyGirl15 to start next week, on August 6th.

“We're thrilled to give LonelyGirl15 the global platform it deserves via MySpaceTV,” said Greg Goodfried, co-creator and producer of LonelyGirl15. Miles Beckett, another co-creator and producer of the online show added, “We expect MySpace users to welcome the show with open arms.”

Don't expect MySpace to be the only place to find LonelyGirl now, however. Apparently, the press release only mentions the word “exclusive” in the statement that reads ?an exclusive partnership to debut LonelyGirl15?s season one finale.?

Lonelygirl15 began its life on YouTube, but then later switched to Revver as its primary video host, although the team continued to upload to multiple video sites.

MySpaceTV will create a branded video community for LonelyGirl15 where fans will be able to “subscribe, get alerts when new content is posted, watch all 245 previous and new episodes, and discuss the series with other fans through a comment function.” MySpace will also get rights to host future episodes from season 2 of LonelyGirl15.

“With more than 115 million potential friends on MySpace, LonelyGirl won't be lonely any more,” said Jeff Berman, GM of MySpaceTV. “By joining Sony Minisodes, Prom Queen, and all of our branded channel partners coming online this month, LonelyGirl will be in good company on MySpaceTV.”

LonelyGirl15 has turned into a runaway hit, that I am sure the creators were not expecting when they began the show. The team behind Lonelygirl gets to maintain creative control, keep the rights to all content, it has websites fighting to be the sole provider of its content, and they have companies fighting over who will pay for their bandwidth. Wow!

It sounds to me like they are enjoying great success and truly have become a sought-after web phenomenon.
