SocialXperience: Aggregator Of News ‘Straight From The Source’
by
on August 06, 2007,
Curious to know just how many minds are needed to start a Web 2.0 company? Well, if the structure of Social Media, Ltd. is anything to go by, just one’s enough.
Yep, one. Uno. Commandeered by a Mr. Todd Palmer, Social Media Ltd. is a solo effort we think very deserving of a mention here on Profy. Not because it is a one-man show, but more to do with the fact that one website built under the auspices of Social Media, is really very interesting. Downright impressive both technically and aesthetically, we think it’s simply too good to pass over with word. It is something we think you might find an interest in also once you understand the basics of the project.
It’s called SocialXperience, or SXP, for short. Part aggregator, part feed reader, it is an AJAX-based hub that purports to do something no other Internet company/startup has so far managed to address or deliver: company news.
Right now, you’re likely drawing lots of question marks as to what exactly I mean by “company news”. So I’ll tell you. If you’ve followed the world of Web 2.0 and the realm of blogging for any significant period of time, you know that there has been noticeable growth in the area of corporate blogging. Companies big and small now regularly document internal developments they wish users - and even journalists on occasion - to know in order to keep them “in the loop” and to maintain a sort of conversation with their bases. Whether Internet entities have betas they want to announce or upgrades to existing services, they use blogs to get their messages out to the people. Vice versa, public feedback is also gathered by those “communal” outlets.
But, if you’re like most users of Web apps and services, you maintain a litany of accounts at various sites. Surely, keeping track of the latest developments to sprout from each and every one can quickly become an unattractive proposition. SocialXperience brings it all together for you.
I’ll be honest, I’m not too keen on the site’s title. I see little reason to claim SocialXperience as a communal venue. It is not. It brings many facets together, yes, but it is not a social network nor a social bookmarking utility by any means. Still, it’s no doubt useful, so I’m willing to let that discrepancy slide.
I will say that I do hope SocialXperience maintains its place as a straight-from-the-source news hub, as I can see how quickly it could in fact transform into just another news aggregator (it’s ‘RSS Feed’ icon in the ‘Widgets’ menu offers standard, non-corporate news feeds, including one for Profy). For Social Media, Ltd. to stray from its original concept would be quite unfortunately. It should build solely upon its corporate list.
If SocialXperience plays its hand right, it may well have a long future ahead of itself. If not, then, well…then not.

Thanks for the write up, Paul. I just want to mention the thinking behind the name SocialXperience, and that is that I thought it would be better from a marketing standpoint than SocialNetworkingNewsXperience.com. Granted, it’s not a social network, but I also wouldn’t mind if it just kind of morphed into being known as SXP.com in the future. Much easier to type!
