DEMOfall 07 Presents: Feedhub – One Cure for Online ADD
by
on September 24, 2007,
Feedhub is being introduced at DEMOfall 07 beginning today. This next generation information tool allows users to personalize and improve popular feed readers. Feedhub will essentially cut through the mass confusion of overwhelming data to deliver relevant stories to readers. Feedhub is built on mSpoke's patented mPower Adaptive Personalization Engine which enables Feedhub to learn from human insights. DEMOfall's producer Chris Shipley specifically selected Feedhub for debut at DEMOfall 07, so expectations are high for this new intuitive tool.
Feedhub VooDoo
Feedhub essentially uses the nPower engine to analyze RSS feed sources (or OPML files) to interpret topics and issues relevant to the user. Feedhub then renders one “smart feed” that can be viewed via any popular feed reader like Bloglines or Google Reader. This new Feedhub feed then continually learns “Memes” that correspond to individual content preferences. So in effect Feedhub acts as a very advanced content filter that tweaks relevance continuously. Every story features a “Spokometer” which indicates its relevance level. Feedhub also takes into account what is termed the “wisdom of the crowd” and evaluates a user's digital identity at places like Digg and del.icio.us in order to create even more personalized Memes.

The Look of Love
Web 2.0 has produced some of the most fantastic creations, but there is always a down side and for us it is information glut. Every startup I have covered over the last several months has to some degree addressed “attention economy” to some extent. Feedhub is a welcome addition to our arsenal of time saving and data relevance tools. Feedhub effectively and perfectly utilizes tools like drag and drop to allow users flexibility and economy of motion as well. In the figures below, a Feedhub user can drag and drop preferred or undesirable Memes according to preferences and obviously personalize and filter their content drastically. Anyone who has tripped and weaved their way through early feed reader evolutions is going to be in love with Feedhub.

nSpoke
Founded by CEO Dave Mawhinney, CTO Dean Thompson and Co-Founder and VP of Product Management Sean Ammirati, nSpoke has been providing personalization solutions since 2006. The Pittsburgh, PA Company has very close ties with Carnegie Mellon University - a world leader in advanced computer science technologies.
Concluding
With every one of my online friends beginning to develop some new form of ADD (particularly me), the onset of no-nonsense relevance tools like Feedhub are a virtual lifesaver. This sounds like hype I know, but our digital lives have become seriously over burdened and it is great that so many startups are addressing this need. To be honest, I have not used a feed reader of any kind in 6 months. At the onset of my blogging expedition I was scanning press releases and massive feeds to find our readers great news. More often than not I found the time expense burdensome and the resultant stories always seemed to be derived from just a few sources really.
Feedhub has created a crisp and effective tool here to essentially do what most of us have taken months to do - make our data relevant. Web 3.0 is about simply and effectively “grabbing” the best technology to provide the best result. Feedhub looks like it is there - the elusive next phase in shoe leather.
