[...] I have covered hakia virtually across the Web over these last months and have yet to find a better contender for the title: “champion of alternative search engines.” The task before hakia is a daunting one, but the potential there is virtually unlimited when meaning based search becomes a reality. It is significant to note that this round of funding is earmarked for “semantic” advertising I think. Not many consider just how impactful actual semantic search will be on the infastgructure of the Web. Advertising will almost certainly be supplanted with a more robust, effective and honest system in my book. From the conversations Riza and I have had, it is apparent to me that spam and adword type ads will eventually be as dated as black and white TV. [...]

[...] Probability and Possibility For many months and via hundreds of articles I have attempted to describe or express some of the most sophisticated technology and concepts imaginable. Since last year so many innovations and fantastically brilliant people have crossed my path it is staggering. Writing for Profy, Mashable and ultimately ReadWriteWeb has facilitated being able to help bring some of these wonderful companies and tools to people on a fairly broad stage. [...]

[...] Hakia has been perhaps the most fascinating startup I have covered, not simply because of the technology involved but also because of the special people involved in the development. After all is said and done, it is the people behind the machines that actually create great technology and ideals. I think this is an important aspect of our journey from what we might call "simple understanding" towards what approaches "actual" understanding. I make this distinction so that the reader might fathom what "meaning" represents to Riza, Melek and the other great scientists there at hakia. The search for genuine meaning there is not about just finding "any" answer, and it is certainly not about just giving people a relevant page to wander off to. Riza (hakia's CEO) told me in confidence some time ago that hakia and its investors were focused on providing real "solutions" for people. MO combined with semantic search suggests a whole new range of possibilities for hakia and its users. [...]

[...] When an A-list blogger like Phil Butler at Profy spins a good tale about hakia vs. Google, Powerset against the rest of the world, or even Astro Versus Scooby Doo, his readers praise him. We feel better knowing there are search engines out there that will provide better results somewhere in the future. And we’re grateful to Phil for filling us in. A Scooby snack! Yum!
Right Stevo! I searched on hakia, google, yahoo, ask, alta-vista, chacha, msn and called the Gap store. Where did you buy this sucker? I actually got a hit at number one on hakia for setting the alarm but the link was 404 dead.

Right after I find this info - we can sell the Arc of the Covenant, The gold from the lost Dutchman mine, a 400 carat raw diamond I found and the Holy Grail which shall surely turn up months before a GAP watch.

I am on it tho and may the best search engine (searcher) win. :)

If you want to convince me than use a search engine to find the instructions for a Gap Alarm Chrono watch. It's my daughter's watch and we have no idea how to set the thing.

Okay! So taking a straw poll so far we have:

1 - Astro Web'ber who pretends to be Scooby Doo
1 - Self professed Scooby Web'ber who is in reality Astro girl
1 - Registered and pedigreed Scooby Web member

Now the qustion arises: "Do we go Scooby on the Web because we want to fit in, or are there more subversive things going on?" For instance, if I were an SEO expert I would probably want to act Scooby so that all the real Scooby Doos would identify with me. Also, a Scooby Web is one that is easy to manipulate. Finally, an Astro Web represents not only the dreaded "change" so many Scooby's would whine and whimper "Ruh Rooooow" over - and SEO pseudo-Scooby's would actually have to make content rather than juice some links and etc.

Do I sound cynical? It's part of the truth. If you tell someone they have to walk 2 miles t find the love of their life and they walk 25 feet and say: 'I told you she/he does not exist." - then either the gene pool needs to end with them or they have some other agenda to fulfill. Doh!

Billy - I laughed until I cried last night when I read this. Yes, I can get more understanding and real interest at Susie's Country Kitchen on any given morning AND some great buscuits too.

MIG - you just like Scooby - but Astro would respect you more :)

Tad - If you look at the new Yahoo search (which has been around for eons) you may denote that they are attempting to integrate semantic suggestion into the engine. As for SEO 2.0 - I expect it is SEO 1.0 with less content and more SEO mumbo jumbo 2007.

I tried Hakia several times. OK, now I retried and the answer to my question "what is SEO 2.0" was a great one. Nonetheless, my impression is that Hakia uses Yahoo results without much added value. Thus I prefer Lexxe for natural language search.
